The rain lashed against the windows of Leo’s cluttered workshop, a sanctuary of soldering irons and vintage tech. On his workbench sat a rugged, brick-like Vertex Standard VX-180. It was a relic from a local search-and-rescue fleet, built with "Mil-Spec" toughness, but currently, its 8-character display was as blank as Leo's weekend plans.
Modern USB cables require specific drivers to emulate a COM port. Legacy software like CE44 often fails to see simulated USB-to-Serial ports without manual address mapping. 3. The Computer
The official programming software for the VX180 series (including the VX-180, VX-180V, VX-180U) is called Vertex Standard CE24 (also known as CE-24 or CE24 Software).
Chirp is the most famous free radio programming software. It supports hundreds of models from Baofeng, Kenwood, Icom, and even some Vertex models. However, Chirp does NOT natively support the VX180.
Why buy it? You get technical support and a guarantee the .exe won't crash your Windows 10 or 11 PC. But for a $100 radio you bought used on eBay, paying another $80 for software stings.
You might find the software easily, but you will almost certainly fail to program the radio if you buy the wrong cable.
