Veeam Data Platform v12: Licensing Guide and Key Updates
With the release of Veeam v12 (technically Veeam Data Platform 12), Veeam has introduced significant architectural changes and, consequently, important shifts in how licensing is structured and managed. While the core functionality of backup and replication remains robust, the way you acquire, apply, and manage license keys has evolved.
- Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365: Previously a separate purchase and license, this is now fully integrated into the Veeam Data Platform. You can use your Universal Licenses to protect M365 data directly within the Veeam Data Platform console.
- Malware Detection: The "Scan for Malware" feature is built into the platform. While the scanning itself doesn't cost extra "instances," having a valid license key is required to enable the detailed threat analytics and automated responses.
- Direct Backups to Object Storage: This feature is now standard. You can write backups directly to S3, Azure Blob, etc., without consuming extra licenses for the storage gateway itself, though the source VMs still consume licenses.
