Work - Thelugu Dengudu Kathalu And Bommalu Zip Fixed
Report: Telugu Dengudu Kathalu and Bommalu Zip Fixed Work
The majority of unrecoverable files were small PDF fragments (< 15 KB) whose headers were completely overwritten; however, their textual content was reproduced from parallel transcriptions, mitigating loss.
JPEG recovery was highly successful due to robust file signatures and the presence of EXIF timestamps that facilitated accurate ordering of Bommalu series.
The newly created PREMIS record captures provenance, fixing actions, and checksums, thereby satisfying the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) reference model.
Methodology and Approach
3.1. Diagnostic Phase
Integrity Audit – Employed zipdetails (Info‑ZIP) to list all central‑directory entries. Detected 1,342 broken entries (CRC errors) and 57 missing EOCD (End‑of‑Central‑Directory) records.
Binary Inspection – Used hexedit to locate signature bytes (PK\x03\x04 for local file headers, PK\x05\x06 for EOCD). Identified truncated blocks at offsets 1 GB, 2 GB, and 2.9 GB.
Metadata Cross‑Check – Compared file counts in the manifest CSV (manifest.csv) with entries in the directory; discrepancy of 3.7 % confirmed loss.
