Released in 1989, the first installment of Night Trips arrived at a time when the adult industry was moving away from the narrative-heavy, comedic plots of the "Golden Age" (the 1970s) and toward the "Gonzo" style of the 90s. Andrew Blake, however, carved out a distinct third path. He rejected the grainy, plot-driven theatrics of his predecessors and the raw, unpolished nature of his contemporaries.
