It assumes a Windows PC (MSTS runs on Windows); if you need a different OS, say so.

4. Run as Administrator (Even on Modern PCs)

MSTS and its tools were designed for Windows XP/7. Right-click your sfm.exe after installation and go to Properties > Compatibility. Set: msts shape file manager 25 install

64-bit Windows note – SFM is a 32-bit app but runs fine on 64-bit systems.
No modern UI – SFM is a classic MSTS-era tool with a simple interface, but it remains the gold standard for shape manipulation.
