Introduction
- Brick the radio (render it unusable).
- Corrupt the codeplug (internal memory).
- Cause frequency drift or illegal transmission on restricted bands.
- Open Windows Device Manager → Ports (COM & LPT).
- Note the COM number. Change it to COM1–COM4 if possible (some older versions of SMP software only scan low COM ports).

Step 1: Connect the Hardware
- Turn off the SMP 468 radio.
- Connect the programming cable to the side accessory port (will click firmly).
- Connect the USB end to your PC.

- Connect cable to radio's mic/speaker jack (center pin = TX, sleeve = RX).
- Power on the radio (volume at 50% – some cables draw power from audio line).
- In software: Click Read → Select COM port → Baud rate is fixed at 9600 bps (cannot change).
- Wait 10–15 seconds. If "Connection Failed", check drivers and COM port.
