The 1988 version of Journey to the Center of the Earth has one of the strangest histories in Hollywood. The original director, Rusty Lemorande, only shot the first eight minutes. Because of contract issues with foreign distributors, the producers took an entirely different, unrelated movie—a sequel to Alien from L.A.—and spliced it onto those first eight minutes, renaming the whole mess "Journey to the Center of the Earth" just to fulfill their deals.
