If you decide to migrate legacy designs to OrCAD 22.x or 23.x, follow this process to minimize errors:

Forward Compatibility (16.3 → 17.x):

• Schematic (.DSN): Yes – Cadence maintains forward compatibility. However, you cannot save back to 16.3 after editing in 17.x.
• PCB Layout (.BRD): No direct backward save. You must export an ODB++ or Gerber from 17.x.
• Part Libraries (.OLB): Upward compatible, but 17.x introduces new properties (e.g., TOLERANCE).
