787 Fcom [updated] Guide
787 FCOM — Quick Overview
What it is: The 787 Flight Crew Operating Manual (FCOM) is the primary technical manual for Boeing 787 flight crews. It contains normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures; aircraft systems descriptions; performance and limitations; and operational guidance.
Use and compliance
- The FCOM is a certified document and must be used in conjunction with the QRH (Quick Reference Handbook) and airline-specific manuals (FCOM/QRH/AFM hierarchy per operator).
- Crews follow FCOM procedures for normal and non-normal operations unless alternative procedures are provided by the operator or regulatory authority.
The "Big Picture" Method
- Learn the Electrical first. If you don't understand the AC architecture, you will never understand the engine start, the packs, or the anti-ice.
- Forget the 737/777 bleed air. Actively unlearn pneumatics. When you read "CAC" in the FCOM, say "Electric compressor" out loud.
- Use the digital index. The PDF version of the 787 FCOM has hyperlinks. Start a query: "Why does my pack trip?" Trace the hyperlink to "Overheat protection."
